Ok, I admit it. I use a lot of creamer and Splenda in my coffee. I know it's considered 'manly' to take it black but I choose the more 'tan' route for my cup. I'm not an all day coffee drinker either. Just in the morning and maybe a cup in the afternoon 2-3 days a week. I don't even drink it some days and I really can't tell a difference physically like some describe.
Sometimes I’ll hear people say, “If I don’t start the day off with coffee, I’ll get the shakes or a headache.” In the Genesis account of creation (Genesis 1-2) we see that God looked at His creation and said it was good. (Gen 1:11-12) I believe that when God created the coffee bean, He may have thought to Himself, “They are going to love this!”
It seems like I hear more people express their frustration about their lack of a consistent “quiet time” with God than anything else. I remember hearing that term shortly after I was saved as a student and wondering what it meant. What did it look like? Do I read? Do I pray? Am I supposed to really be quite? All I knew to do was to go the back of the Bible and look in the concordance and I would look up all the verses I could find on certain topics. As an eighth grade student, there was not a rhyme or reason to what word I would study for that day, just whatever caught my attention first. I’d read all the verses on forgiveness, hell, baptism, etc.
Make time for the One who loves your soul today…God calls us to a deep place of trust and intimacy. Almost 20 years later, I still hit major bumps in the road when it comes to having a vibrant time where I shut the whole world out, sit down, and meet with God. It’s so easy to plan an event, return emails, calls, or exist in the machine that ministry can be without truly meeting with the One that created me for fellowship, first with Him and then with others. Make time for the One who loves your soul today. It should come as second nature for those He’s redeemed. God calls us to a deep place of trust and intimacy. For me, that happens best in the morning before things get crazy. That’s when I enjoy coffee more than any other time. When I sit in a comfy chair with my Bible, a view of the outside, and a hot cup of beige joe.
